Mustard Day 2018

By | News | No Comments

Chicks-n-Chaps is celebrating Local Food Week which takes place Aug. 12-18, 2018. We have proclaimed Aug. 13 as Mustard Day. #mustarddayAB

The United States has a National Mustard Day as well as a museum, and so we at Chicks-n-Chaps think we need our own day too.

We are encouraging people to create a new recipe with mustard, try it on something unusual or eat it out the jar with a spoon! We want to know why people love mustard and are encouraging people to share that love on social media. Chicks-n-Chaps will be promoting the best recipes and ideas on its social channels – Facebook/twitter/Instagram @chicksnchapsAB

The Terrific Trio – Kickin’, Grainy and Dilly

By | News | No Comments

Meet our Teriffic Trio – Kickin’, Grainy, and Dilly.

Chicks-n-Chaps sources mustard from southern Alberta, honey from the Edmonton region and the beer from Ribstone Creek. Made in Edmonton by Chief Product Officer, Eleanor Busko, Chicks-n-Chaps is sold through our website and Facebook page. You can also get Dilly Horseradish Mayo  or Grainy Beer Mustard on your sandwich at any Fifendekel location.

Grainy Beer Mustard – a robust texture made with Ribstone Creek beer that bursts with flavour. It pairs well with bratwurst and sausage and we like to add it with an oil in salad dressings.

Kickin’ Honey – hold on to yer tastebuds. Sweet from the start, this mustard provides a kick to finish, hence the name. Try it with ham, kielbasa or as a dipping sauce.

Dilly Horseradish Mayo – the mayo your roast beef has been waiting for! This versatile condiment can be added to dips, devilled eggs and goes nicely with salmon.

The history of Chicks-n-Chaps

By | News | No Comments

Chicks-n-Chaps, established in 2016, is a condiment line by Experience Alberta, a venture
created to introduce people to the tastes, sights and hidden gems of our province.
The idea for Chicks-n-Chaps began with a dream for people to enjoy an evening in the country
and meet new people through an event called ‘Franks on the Farm’.
What makes a ‘frank’ or hot dog amazing other than being roasted on an open fire? Mustard of
course.
“Mustard is a versatile condiment that most people use,” said Jacquie Fenske, President of
Experience Alberta. “We want to highlight the history of mustard in Alberta and Saskatchewan
and salute our agricultural roots.”
Most of Canada’s mustard is grown in Alberta and Saskatchewan, where our prairies have ideal
conditions for the drought-resistant, cool-weather crop. Canada is currently the world’s largest
exporter of mustard.
Currently, the Chicks-n-Chaps line includes Kickin’ Honey Mustard, Grainy Beer Mustard and
Dilly Horseradish Mayo, but we are always dreaming up new things.
For Fenske and the team, “this is our small way to tell the story of mustard and pay tribute to the
farmers that produce it, making that connection that what you put on your plate comes from
farmers’ fields.”
